Nidhi

I have like any other kid played this game when a child and yes I still do play it during winter mornings while sitting in verandah and soaking the Sun. Now why I really like this game is because it never lets anyone get smug about getting to the top fast....one can get down equally fast and not to talk of some of those really long deadly snakes which leaves one just a few places short of the start, he he !! what fun it was to see others slide down the saanp....yes 'others' and then it was always so terrible to watch oneself with all the steadly made progress, backke from all the snakes and yet one roll lof the dice and, swoosh.........

I wouldn't mind bypassing the ladders if I could bypass the snakes too. But that's not the rule of the game...it's all in the stride. Actually there have been times when a player keeps waiting for the precious 'one' on the dice while others complete the game within no time. Its all so unpredictable.......just like life. We have to roll the dice and take whatever comes our way.

This game taught me never to be too happy about being ahead others and never feel too down for being so very far behind. Later in life I heard the same philosophy worded better, 'Success is neverending and failure never final.' And I think this game also taught me to remain balanced. Even today I see my kiddo friends look at me with such an 'about-to-cry' expression when they land on a square with a snake when about to reach the '100' spot....I know how bad it can feel and have felt so too...........but the lesson lasts for a life time.

Cheers Harsh!

This was an amazing post. I had almost forgotten "Saanp-Seedi". It surely was the best timepass during the chilly nights with all the cousins, or during those never-ending train journeys or during lazy summer afternoons with nothing better to do. Infact, it formed a great combo with Ludo. We would switch between the two.

But yea, Saanp Seedi taught everyone a great lesson of life. You can fall down as easily as you can rise to the top and you always need a bit of luck in life too...

hmm.. nidhi.. most of ur posts induces nostalgic moments in us.. and thanks to u..
but, here rather than the oldtimes u reminded me, the comparison u made to the real life growth is what really caught my attention...

To climb the ladder of success we should have the courage to face everything, even if we've to encounter some snakes like low confidence, fear of failure, selfishness.. and lot more...
jus like there r snakes of all sizes, there r lots of hindrances for us in life which we should either avoid or go thro' as a test for us to be successful and achieve our target..

ohoo.. am talking too much here :( sorry..... :)

You were not at all off the line infact while searching for the image for the post i came upon a site which gave a little detail about the game's genesis...it is not authenticated but an interesting trivia none the less.....

Well the game was designed taking into view the various sins and the virtues that ppl (catholic) should keep away from and follow respectively...and each snake acc.to the website represents some particular sin of greed..like wise the ladders also have their significance.

I know i have been drawing from heavily nostlgic and thankyou all for being nice and appreciative.

    Keep yakking here!! :)

Life is sure like snakes and ladder. Never be over-confident until you are successful. I loved to play saanp-seedi. I had a board which had a saanp on the 100th spot. I wonder why no one used to play this game with me?;> Keep posting! Bye!
