Nidhi
I have some time at hand ..unexpected! and i have been meaning to update my blog but could not think of jotting...nee typing my thoughts..so i am just typing top of my mind. I am still good with the old fashioned penning of thoughts, reading paper books, and believe me the letters i got from family and friends during my graduation days still the very precious.
I have read e-books ( Davinci Code in one single sitting......okay jumped a few pages ;-)) and chat for hours at stretch, share pic and messages over net, surf like mad at times ..but all said and done i still miss the romance and charm of good old days(are they really so old).....Remember the time when we used to watch the same TV serials on DD and wait for chitrahaar, and the commercials used to be so few and far inbetween....and the times when loadshedding would take place with all the kids in colony joining for a game of 'chuppa chuppi' .. and then when 'Light' aa jati thi a collective woop of delight.. and more often than not we would all gang up at someone's home and share biscuits and lots of halla gulla......no body would mind..those were the times when we knew neighbours better then our own relatives....
I remember the first time i cried when i came to Delhi for my gradution was when i read mamma's letter..... i did not cry while leaving home, neither on the telephone .. but that one letter broke my defense....i still have the letter with me ... words smudged with tears. Those things are precious ..not like the e-cards that expire in 15 days.....
And i bet many of us will remember that NCERT song........about "Ek Anek"...... 'suraj ek , chanda ek..taare anek' . Nostalgia.

This is the most nostalgic post I have read. I used to write a lot of posts like this one. I loved reading every word of it.

I prefer hand-written letter to email any day. One of the bloggers recently send me a hand written letter and I also send one to a blogger and it was so much better than emails. There is so much more emotion in reading and writing with your own hands. Also, every letter is so different from any other unlike emails.

I feel the same about old DD serials. Chitrahaar on Wednesdays and Fridays, Rangoli on Sunday Mornings, Mahabharath on Sunday, Hum-Log, Buniyaad, Surabhi...ah so many great serials unlike Saas-Bahu crap of today.

And, nobody used to mind light ka jaana (except in between Chitrahaar) becuase we all would play in our colony in Agra. Your post really touched a nerve in me.

Lovely nostalgic picture to compliment it.

Ok, now let's work on your sidebar.

    For blogrolling do the following:

    1. Since you are using blogspot, things maybe a little different but not a lot.
    2. Goto http://www.blogrolling.com/ and create an account for urself. I think it should guide you on how to add links. It will give you a link like tag-board did.
    3. Go into your account, where you put code for tag-board and about me kinda thing. Add the code given by blog-rolling there wherver you want your links to go.

Try this and then we will work on other stuff, which is pretty easy. Contact me if you have any trouble.

Yes yes and to add to that we used to have 'aerial antennae'..aluminium rod jise barish mein hila hila kar theek karna padta tha...god it was so much fun..shouting from terrace ..with the cricket match going on and all the confusion ... those were so much enjoyable.

And then again..we used to watch 'discovery of india' the mst boring program on TV then..:-) and all the He-man and My little ponies..even the "Tandoori nights' of Jaffari and all the musical programs....

Arre aur phir when some dignitary used to die tab phir 'Shok' manaya jaata tha..and all programs would be suspended for days..depending upon the position of the'dead' man...

Pata Surabhi was my family's favourite..we would send so many postcards....

And aakhir mein i have to say this ..I was so glad i found the picture to compliment the post..i have the video version too..he he..:)

You know I once made a science project on those aerials where I made that aerial with steel hangars...he he. I know what you mean. We would be like, "Aree thoda right ghuma, nahin thoda left, thoda aur left, Oye Sachin ne chakka maara"...he he

Yea, "Discovery of India" was the one based on Nehru's book and everyone will get up. I had collected all the He-Man toys. I was crazy about that.

"Tandoori Nights" was my ultimate favourite. I loved that one. I was mature enough then to find it very interesting.

Sachi itna gussa chadta tha jab koi marta tha, not because of death but because of suspension of program. How about that dreaded. "Rukawat ke liye khed hain" and that "Gumshuda Talash Kendra, Nayee Kotwali, Daryaganj, Nai Dilli, 110011"...LOL

Surabhi was my family's favourite too. We all would also sit like both of them and watch it as a family. We would buy those special Rs. 2 postcards in bulk.

I loved the pictures. Some of my other fav serials were "Fauji", "Circus Circus", "Flop Show", "Ulta Pulta" and so many others, I can't even remember...LOL

Tandoori nights was a fav ..and mujhe bhi samajh thi..i remember a 'balti aloo' wala episode which was so funny....
And Fauji aur Samandar both on army life were a fav too...and Circus bhi.....how about "Nukkard' with 'khopdi' i remember the jingle too..."kisse shehar ki ek gali mein basa hua hai nukkad..us kukkad ke har baashinde lekin jeeb se fakkad...'...:-)

Aree, I don't remember a whole lot of serials but after reading all the comments, I am being transported to late 80s and 90s era of "good" Indian television and not copy-cat of all American reality shows that come these days.

Sachi, subah school jaane se pehle "Ulta Pulta" dekh ke the day used to start on a happy note itself.

"Rukawat ke liye khed hain" was not bad because that would mean that programming will resume in 15 minutes but the worst was those colorful lines that would come up every now and then. It may takes hours to resume programming after that, almost like a virus attack these days...he he.

LOL @ Gumshuda comment. It's amazing that I remembered the whole address too.

Sometimes New Years ke program used to be so bad but we would still watch for it for the heck of it.

Samandar was my Mom's fav. and I think it was based on Navy Officer's life.

"Nukkad" was my favourite. I still remember the cricket episode where "Khopdi" ke khopdi phodh dee thee neighbouring nukkad waalon ne...ROTFLMAO.

By the way, I just today only got a copy of "Malgudi Days" book from Library written by R K Narayanan.

Also, I have the Moghli and Malgudi tracks if you need one. Just give me your email and I will be happy to send you over. It will be good if you have a gmail account as songs can easily be transferred from there. Otherwise I can send u an invitation for gmail account first, it has 1 GB space.
